With over 40 years of writing and experience in the theatre, James is a sinologist, a bestselling author, a poet, and a Ph.D. in Theatre. He spent 5 years in Japan with study at the Bunrakuza and 7+ years in China. He edited the Chinese UN-required work for its entry into the global community. He preferred kabuki and kyogen and was the only foreigner to manage to study at the National Puppet Theatre of Japan (Bunrakuza), albeit for only one year (1989), under Aioidayu IV.
